^{We are a group working both within and outside the institutional structures of the University of Minnesota. We believe that the only way to reverse the contemporary trends at the university and higher education more broadly is through an independent organization that brings together all those who are dedicated to making the university a truly public institution in service of a truly public good. We believe that such an organization must include and work closely with students, staff, faculty, community members and other workers. It also must be in more meaningful relationship with our surrounding community, who have direct experience of the university becoming inaccessible, unaffordable, and in many ways harmful.}
